Short sales actually help the economy in the long run. Every home in the US right now that is underwater will either be short sold, or will be paid down until there’s enough equity to sell or refinance through conventional means. If we wait for everyone to pay their loans down, we will be waiting until about 2018 before home prices have been corrected. Every short sale that happens corrects that particular property’s market value NOW, instead of waiting until 2018.
